Our Story
Growing up around the ocean in Victoria I would rock up to surf spots, heaters blaring, rubbing my hands together, and trying to get up the courage to step outside the car. My rational brain thinking, what are we doing here, it's 6 in the morning and 8 degrees outside. But... I also know, the winds are light offshore, have been all night, the swell is 4ft+ with a decent period and the chances are somewhere is cookin!
So get out, get ready and go.
And as surfers we know we'll do it anyway, day after day when the conditions are good, or even just average. But my surf poncho sucked, it was a piece of thin towel, sewn together with a hood, brand slapped on and 75 dollars later it is wet and cold and barely doing its job.
We wanted to make a better one, something durable, thick, dry and motivating for winter mornings. A get out of your car, defrost your freezing hands, or drive back to a warm shower quality poncho.
And we did.
We found the best thickest materials, made tonnes of samples and asked other surfers what they wanted. We tested and tested (a significant portion of testing was surfing, so there weren't too many complaints) and finally our first Shacked Surf Poncho, The Drift, was born.
Comfortable, warm, dry, it changed our surfing experience for the better and we hope it does for you too.
